Meloni: “I heard from Trump a few hours ago”

Meloni: “I heard from Trump a few hours ago”

"These days we are constantly in contact with various leaders at European and American level. I spoke to Trump a few hours ago for the last time, we are working to start a new round of negotiations". This was said by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after the meeting with Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Denmark, at Palazzo Chigi.

"Obviously, we discussed with Mette and above all another dossier that we are particularly involved in, which is the migration issue," Meloni said in her statements to the press. In this regard, Italy and Denmark want to "open a political debate on some European conventions to which we are bound and on the capacity of those conventions, a few decades after they were written, to address the great issues of our time, starting precisely with the issue of the migration phenomenon."

Meloni then announced a letter "already signed" by the leaders of various countries, including Austria, Belgium, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Poland and the Czech Republic. The prime minister explained that "the goal is not to weaken the conventions" but "to make them more capable of providing answers to the times in which we live".
